The Corner Office - CEO - tim@scrfu.co.nz

The season is finally upon us: Senior Club Rugby kicks off this Saturday.

Personally, I can’t wait to get out and about and watch and get involved in our rugby community.

Matatu ladies crowned Sky Super Rugby Aupiki Champions for 2023.

A massive congratulations must go to our Matatu ladies. What a wonderful result. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, management, support staff and families involved in this achievement.

This result will be a massive boast for girls and women’s rugby in the South Island and for our growth in this space both in school and club levels.

Rugby Development Officer - dean@scrfu.co.nz

I have settled in well with the team at SCRFU.

As Rugby season approaches, we are trying to get around more schools to run rugby sessions. These sessions all include a skill or objective that is achievable by the end of the lesson. For example, Caro and I went down to Waimate and up to Mackenzie College. Our session’s objective was to improve our catch pass – Setting up drills and fun games helped the students learn technique and to develop the required hand eye coordination. We are also visiting primary schools to run rippa rugby sessions. We had just recently visited Fairlie primary, the kids had a “ball.”

I also had the privilege to represent SCRFU at the Pareora Community event on the weekend. Running games and rugby skills with the Pareora children.

Moving forward, we are excited for the Teenage Tackle Tens next week Wednesday the 5th of April as well as the tackle tech clinic during the afternoon.
